The KENWOOD Viking® Difference

Written by The JVCKENWOOD Team on 9/27/18 10:18 AM

Whether you’re charging toward a burning building or performing a routine traffic stop, you never know what danger you are approaching. Your radio is your lifeline to communicate with dispatch and your team. That’s why we’re committed to developing the highest-quality P25 communication equipment with the most advanced technology so first responders can focus on their mission – protecting and saving lives. The KENWOOD Viking difference is what sets us apart from other radio vendors.

P25 Subscribers
KENWOOD Viking P25 portable and mobile radios are used throughout the world by police, fire, paramedics, military, and homeland security personnel. We worked with our customers to design each Viking radio with ergonomic hardware and advanced features that make mission-critical communications simple.

VP6000
The fully ruggedized Viking 6000 series portable is designed specifically for today’s public safety agencies. With flare-grip hardware for enhanced control, large glove-friendly knobs, large emergency button, Bluetooth® capability, and built-in GPS, the VP6000 is ideal for fire and law enforcement agencies.

VP5000
Small, but mighty. The fully ruggedized Viking VP5000 is designed with law enforcement agencies in mind. At just under 5.5 inches tall, these compact radios feature full and standard keypads, Bluetooth capability, and built-in GPS.

VP900 Dual Band
The VP900 is a multi-protocol P25 radio designed with dual shield housing to increase durability and is an ideal radio for any public safety agency. The Viking 900 series portable is packed with advanced features including large glove-friendly knobs, multiple visual indicators, and integrated GPS.

 VM7000 All-Band Multi-Deck
With the VM7000 all-band multi-deck mobile, users can simultaneously receive and display up to four bands so you never miss a call. The “select” and “unselect” speakers give you the option for audio control similar to a dispatch console.

VM6000
With uncompromised quality, the VM6000 mobile radio enables mixed protocol operation and features the Viking control head with a dual control head option.

VM5000
Comparable to the VM6000, the Viking 5000 series mobile is equipped with industry-leading features designed to take the complexities out of mission-critical communication for public safety users. The VM5000 is currently available as a dash mount with the basic control head.

VM900 Dual Band
The Viking VM900 is a versatile, mixed protocol operational mobile designed for agencies who require dual band communications. The Viking 900 series mobile can be configured as a dash mount, remote mount, or dash mount with remote control head and features a dual control head option, P25 authentication and IP packet data, and conventional vote scan.

The KENWOOD Viking Difference
KENWOOD Viking P25 radios are packed with advanced technology that makes your radio fleet simple to use and maintain.

TrueVoice®
All KENWOOD Viking P25 portable and mobile radios are equipped with TrueVoice software-based noise cancellation and audio enhancement. Because noise source frequencies are filtered through the software, TrueVoice makes dual-mic noise cancellation technology obsolete and works flawlessly with any accessory and eliminates the need for extra configuration.

Armada®
Save time, resources, and manpower with Armada Fleet Management. Easily update radios in a group without taking them out of field. Radio managers can use one template to program both portables and mobiles. Armada supports either direct computer connection or Over-the-Air Programming (OTAP) so users can choose what is most convenient for their agency.

Perpetual Software Licensing
KENWOOD Viking is transforming the way you purchase P25 radio software. Perpetual software licensing extends the life of your software-purchases into your next hardware platform. You purchase the software option once and then you own these assets forever. When you upgrade to a newer model, perpetual licenses can easily be transferred to your new radio.

Vault®
Viking P25 radios and software licenses are simple to manage with Vault – your free cloud-based asset management tool. With Vault you can assign, store, and transfer both perpetual and non-perpetual licenses, view the total value of your licenses, and view and create custom tags and groups for your entire radio fleet.

Guaranteed Interoperability
All KENWOOD Viking P25 radios are Project 25 compliant to give first responders peace of mind knowing that they will be able to communication not only with their team, but also with other agencies who may be operating on a different system.

System Compatibility
KENWOOD Viking P25 portable and mobile radios have been tested and are certified through the Compliance Assessment Program (CAP) to operate on the following systems:

  • ATLAS® P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2 systems
  • Motorola® Astro® P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2 systems
  • Motorola Astro SmartNet®/SmartZone® systems
  • Harris VIDA® P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2 systems
  • Airbus (formerly Cassidian) VESTA™ Radio P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2 systems
